I’m class we learned about formal and informal language. We use formal language when writing, essays, applications, or things of serious matter. We use informal language when we’re talking to our friends/family and humorous papers. When using formal language, we are not allowed to use first person or second person. This is important when it comes to writing essays and serious papers. 

 In the beginning of class we finished the last 30 minutes of fences. This movie was an amazing book representation and was really enjoyable to watch. After we finished that we took the Fences test about the book and answers so constructed responses. I feel like it did pretty good on this test but I believe I could have done better if I caught up on my behind readings.

In class we finished the rest of the book. We find out that 7 years has passed and Troy has died from a heart attack. Cory decided to join the military and comes home on the day of the funeral. He tells rose he doesn’t want to go to the funeral but rose gets upset and tries to help Cory more understand his father. She tells him that’s Troy always gave what he could and that’s what she would do for Raynell who was Troy’s daughter. This book very interesting and had a lot of deep meaning. I enjoyed reading it.

 In class today we read the rest of Act one Scene 4. We learned about Troy’s past and how he was in Jail for 15 years because she killed someone while trying to rob them. Because of what we learned about Troy’s father, we can infer that he is similar to his father in certain ways. Troy told Cory’s football coach that he can’t play football and Cory got upset. Troy told Cory to watch it and not to “strike out” which means that like Troy, Cory may get kicked out the house. Today was a good reading and I was entertained while reading about Troy’s past. 

 In class we answered questions about the story we are currently reading. The book is called fences. This was very helpful because it helps me retain information from the book. This will later help me for the test on the book. Although it is tedious, it helps a lot. It made be kind of tired but I got it done. 

 Today in class we took a common assessment. I felt this was fairly easy and fun to read. The questions were easy as well and if you read the whole thing, you should definitely receive a 100. I got a 100 because it was interesting to read. If it was something I wasn’t interested in reading, then I probably would have gotten distracted and it would have been harder for me. I had a unit test in my 6th period that I also think I did ok on. I’m excited to see my score because i feel like it did good. 

 Today was our block schedule day. In the beginning, we watched a video clip of the movie representation of the story fences. The movie was Word for Word from the book. I think the actors played the characters very well. I wish to watch more of this movie in class or after we read the book. We continued reading the book and I played Rose again. In the story Troy doesn’t allow his son to play football and work at the same time. We learn that he had been lying to his father and still playing football. This story is interesting and entertaining to read. 

 In class we continued reading the story fences. We also took notes on the characters and learned about connotations. We learned that there are different words. We can use that have different connotations, such as negative and positive. I was reading the part Rose, which is Troy‘s wife, I don’t really like reading out loud but since it’s a small classroom, everybody has to read and it’s not as scary.  I am really enjoying this book and the way they speak to each other is funny.

 In class today, we started reading the book fences. So far in this book, we know that Troy and Bono are good friends for 30 years. Troy is 53 years old and still doesn’t have a career set. Bono is a follower of Troy and it indicates That Troy may be cheating on his wife. We also know that the way Troy speaks to his wife is kind of disrespectful. So far I am enjoying reading this book.

 I was absent 

 Today in class we went over the word offensive. This word mean something that upsets you or makes you mad. After this we watched a video of a crowed getting offended by what a principal said at a graduation. The people in the video got offended because she was putting them in a box and was being stereotypical. After we watched these videos, we read a poem called Incident. This poem was about a boy being called a nigger by another boy and that it changed his whole fun experience. The lesson of the poem was the power of words and one them is that one word can have a major impact on someone’s life. I learned that children take a learn a lot from their parents even if there parents didn’t intend on teaching them that certain thing. Today was a good day and went by fairly quickly. After class I plan on working out and cooking dinner for my family. 

 We read We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks in class today 

 In class today we took a quiz. It is senior skip day so there were only 4 people in the class. I think I did ok on the quiz but some of the questions through me off. I hope I got at lease an 80 or above. Some of my teachers have us extra credit for showing up which was nice. I’m a little upset because I work every this week for the 3 day weekend.
